The Jawla Score

One number that moves when you do.

Your Jawla Score is a rating earned on court. It decides who you're matched with, where you sit in your group, and which tier ring you wear. Here is exactly how it's calculated, and why you can trust it.

The ladder

Nine rungs. Earned in order.

Divisions exist only inside Silver, because that's where most players start and where progress needs to be visible early. Elite has no seed: nobody starts there.

Step 1 · Seeding

You start where you actually are.

During onboarding you pick your level on the 1.0 to 8.0 chart Riyadh players already use. Jawla converts it into a starting score. A strong player is never stuck in Silver; a beginner is never thrown into Diamond.

The seed can put you as high as Grandmaster. Never Elite.

Step 2 · Every match moves it

Beat stronger players, gain more. Lose to weaker ones, lose more.

Jawla runs a Glicko-2 engine, the same family used in chess and competitive games. The size of the change depends on who you played, not on the score margin. Try it.

Expected win chance42% Change+21 New score1,663 · Diamond

Underdog win against a stronger pair, so the gain is large.

Simplified illustration of the engine. The live system also weighs partner strength in doubles and each player's rating confidence.

Step 3 · Confidence

New scores move fast. Settled scores stay steady.

The engine tracks how sure it is about your number. In your first matches it moves a lot, so a misplaced seed corrects itself within a handful of games. Once you've played enough, it steadies, and one bad night doesn't wreck a season.

  • First 10 matches: big swings, quick correction
  • After ~30 matches: settled, small moves
  • Long break: confidence loosens slightly, so your return matches count a bit more

On screen

Three ways your tier shows. Never all three at once.

Ring

Around your avatar on every surface: matches, groups, leaderboards, chat bubbles. Always on, so level is visible at a glance.

Crest

The hex emblem for identity moments only: your profile, your player card, a promotion. Outline with chevrons up to Diamond, filled from Master.

Chip

Your score as a pill beside your name where the number matters: match cards and leaderboards. Silver divisions show as a numeral.

Highest sport on your profile

Profile, feed and global surfaces show your best rating across sports. Inside a padel match you see your padel tier.

Coaches carry a ★, never a tier

Coaches are rated by the players they coach. Their standing reflects their coaching, not their last match.

Juniors have no public tier

Kid profiles track a score for matching but never display a tier publicly.

Competition categories

D to A, for draws and leagues.

Tournament organisers already seed draws by category. Categories sit alongside your score so organisers can keep doing that, with a number behind it.

Elite

Earned, verified, and easy to lose.

Elite is the only tier you can't be seeded into. It's a label in English only, with no Arabic equivalent and no badge to buy.

Integrity

What keeps the number honest.

Results confirmed by both sides

A result confirmed by both pairs is final. A disputed result goes to the organiser or venue, then to us.

No self-declared levels after day one

You choose once at onboarding. After that, only matches move the number.

No boosts, no buys

There is nothing to purchase that changes your score or tier. There never will be.

Fake results are detected

Patterns like repeated wins against the same account or results without a booking are flagged and reviewed.

Everyone recalculated together

When we refine the engine, we recalculate consistently for every player, never selectively.

Questions

Score FAQ.

I'm an experienced player. Will I start at the bottom?

No. Pick your level honestly at onboarding and you'll be seeded to match it. If you under-seed, your first few wins will correct it quickly.

Why did my score drop after a win?

It shouldn't, and it won't. A win never lowers your score. If the opponents were far below you it may move by very little.

Does the ranking count open matches and friendlies?

Yes. Any match with results confirmed in Jawla counts. Tournament results count the same way.

How does my rating compare to Playtomic levels?

The 1.0 to 8.0 chart you seed from is the one most Riyadh players know, so the mapping is direct. After that, Jawla's score is its own thing, earned from your matches on Jawla.

Can I hide my tier?

Your tier ring shows in matches and groups because it's what makes level-matching work. Junior profiles never show one. Privacy controls cover everything else on your profile.

What happens to my score if I stop playing?

Nothing drops. Your confidence loosens a little, so when you return your first matches count slightly more, letting the number catch up with your game.

Set your level once. Earn the rest on court.
